Laboratory workers who routinely work with Salmonella Typhi are recommended to receive typhoid vaccine

Typhoid vaccine is recommended for laboratory workers who routinely work with Salmonella Typhi.

These people can receive either:

• 1 dose of parenteral typhoid vaccine (see also Hepatitis A), or
• 3 or 4 doses of oral typhoid vaccine; the 4th dose on day 7 is an option — 4 doses may provide better protection than 3^1,2

The vaccination schedule for oral typhoid vaccine consists of 1 capsule on days 1, 3 and 5 (and day 7 if following a 4-dose schedule) taken 1 hour before food.
