People who have previously received a first or second generation smallpox vaccine (e.g. Dryvax or ACAM2000) are likely to have some residual protection, however, may benefit from receiving one dose of mpox vaccine.
If a person who is recommended to receive primary vaccination for mpox has had a first or second generation smallpox vaccine in the past, one additional dose of MVA-BN mpox vaccine can be given if the previous dose of a smallpox vaccine was given more than 10 years ago.
