Primary vaccination with mpox vaccine may be considered for healthcare workers at risk of exposure to patients with mpox, based on local risk assessment. This may include workers in primary care, sexual health clinics, hospital staff and others.
Primary vaccination may also be considered for healthcare or humanitarian workers who travel to a region with mpox transmission, and who may be at risk of occupational exposure to mpox.
The risk of transmission should also be minimised by using infection control measures.
Currently, there is insufficient evidence to support a requirement for a booster dose of the MVA-BN mpox vaccine for people who are fully vaccinated (that is, people who have had 2 doses administered at least 28 days apart), including those who are severely immunocompromised.
