People with chronic neurologic conditions are strongly recommended to receive influenza vaccine every year
People with chronic neurologic conditions are strongly recommended to receive annual influenza vaccine.
Chronic neurologic conditions include:
- multiple sclerosis
- spinal cord injuries
- seizure disorders
- other neuromuscular disorders
These conditions can compromise respiratory function or the ability to expel respiratory secretions. This can increase the risk of aspiration.9,10
Influenza vaccination is particularly important for children ≥6 months of age with chronic neurologic conditions. These children can have severe, even fatal, influenza.
